Wearing make-up ‘dangerous’ for girls: Study
Even without knowing the study results on the use of cosmetics, any educated and sensible person can understand that the chemicals used in the cosmetics could be dangerous to our body. Defying nature and refuse to accept the nature’s gift as it is, we only add problems to our health with artificial products, not only cosmetics, also food.
Now that the study conducted by the Washington based Environmental Working Group (EWG) has revealed the adverse effect of chemicals in the cosmetics, women should think twice before using cosmetics just to make the outer layer beautiful. The group has stressed on problematic areas such as cancer, infertility, and hormone imbalance for women, who use cosmetics frequently as habit. The beauty products they tested, all contained the dangerous chemicals that could be hazardous to the health eventually, the group said.
They mentioned the products like mascara, eye shadow, and foundation that contain unsafe chemicals. The EWG is trying to make people aware the consequences of using cosmetics, especially to girls aged between 14 and 19, as they feel that girls at this tender age start using cosmetics and eventually make the use of cosmetics as ritual. Stacy Malkan, the co-founder of EWG, opined that the chemicals in the cosmetics have been known for causing hormonal problems and cancer, and could be linked to depression too. Phthalates, triclosan, parabens, and musks are the dangerous elements in cosmetics, the study said. getting exposed to cosmetics at an early age is more harmful, as layers of cosmetics piled up by frequent use, the effect of dangerous chemicals too increase, creating a foundation for diseases at the end, the study disclosed.
On an average, the teenagers of the western countries use 17 different products each day including nail polish and hair dye, whereas an adult woman uses only 13 products, the study reported.
