Poverty key, keep religion at home: next CJI

The cycle of changing positions of judges, and for that matter for every other post is a routine matter that involves time, experience, qualification, and achievements. This rule is appropriate and most of us accept it. Following this rule, many people hold crucial posts in a democratic system like India’s, which is not that significant than their sensible work while holding that position.

Justice SH Kapadia, being the senior most Supreme Court Judge would take the responsibility of the Chief Justice of India next year, when the incumbent CJI retires. His credibility has taken him to this point, and we hope he would be able to implement his noble and justified ideas for the good of ordinary citizens of India.

While speaking in a function marking the Human Rights Day, he stressed the need on eradication of poverty that is a hindrance in the path of true development. The same had been expressed by a bench of two judges in the hearing of a PIL by two NGOs on prostitution and children trafficking just two days back. The judges give their justified opinions repeatedly, suggestions to government for the right act, and even reprimand them from time to time, yet significant changes are not seen on the ground. Eventually, judges after judges retire, and the irresponsible corrupt government remains complacent with file work and rhetoric.

On religion, Kapadia articulated himself by saying that religion is a personal matter. Indeed, he is more than correct to on this opinion, which if taken seriously, we would be able to minimize many problems in the society. Certain aspects in the society are running without any credibility and accountability making people vulnerable to fall in the traps. In religion, people behave in blind faith incorporating fear, greed, expectations, heaven, and hell, which become the reasons of exploitation by a certain individuals. And this lead to terror acts, he opined. The solution of terrorism lies in the quality education, according to hi.

Among many crucial problems of the country, he made it clear that the distribution of wealth should be reasonable keeping in mind the total population of more than 120 crores. The current statistics show that only 300 millions are benefited from the economic growth leaving 700 millions lurching in the dark, he said. That has to be stopped by the government with meaningful planning and honest implementation. Why in the first place the poverty should exist, when the economic development is surging ahead? Poverty is a definite violation of human rights, he said. Issues have to be prioritized for tackling effectively; otherwise, we would have false development of majority people under paucity.

His contended by saying that judiciary can solve many matters in the court, and is a place on which public still rely.
