Dubai ruler Sheikh Maktoum’s high life

Dubai, an emirate under the country United Arab Emirates, is most advanced and developed out of other emirates of UAE. Its ruler is Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also holds the post of Prime Minister as well as Vice President of the UAE Government.

This 1947 born ruler is not reckoned as old style man, as he shows his proficiency in the modern way of life amply. Besides, he has maintained his keen interest of ancient desert life through his love for camels and horses. Popularly known as Sheikh Mohammed in short, he is responsible for the significant development of Dubai that is the best in the gulf region.

Sheikh Mohammed is slated to be worth of $ 1.2 billion, which may not look that impressive in front of world rich list, yet he commands a great deal of respect and power in the region. The recent financial crisis of Dubai World, the state owned conglomerate, might has put him into tizzy thoughts, but that has not reflected in his behavior so far. The 60 billion dollar loan could make the progress of Dubai in a tough position, and speculation is that he might look for assistance in this from its oil rich neighboring emirate Abe Dhabi.  

Sheikh Mohhamed, apart from his official engagement, loves to write poetry, rides horses, and participates in long distance horse races. He also drives his own customized four-wheeler Mercedes SUV on the sprawling Dubai Street. Sheikh Maktoum is inclined to the western culture and is on the move to transform Dubai in that direction considerably. He has given the citizens and the residents of this emirate the taste of liberalism that is missing in other five emirates of GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) states. Maintaining the old system, he accepts the citizens in his diwan and listen their complaints; maintains his facebook profile updated; and communicates with Dubai youth through tweets. This multifaceted ruler indeed has been able to generate aspirations for the people of Dubai to think of making this city like other advanced western cities.
